Vertical agitators for flash mixing, coagulation, and flocculation are essential in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment. These effluents often contain suspensions that are too small or light to be filtered and removed (colloidal solids), necessitating specific treatments.
During the flash mixing stage, also known as rapid mixing, and the coagulation stage, chemicals are added to the water to promote the coagulation of solids and the attraction between non-settleable or non-filterable particles. These particles are attracted by coagulants, such as ferric chloride (FeCl3), PAC (poly aluminium chloride Al2Cl(OH)5), and aluminium sulfate (Al2(SO4)3), making them easier to agglomerate during the subsequent flocculation phase.
Proper mixing of the coagulant with the wastewater is a key element for the success of the coagulation process and determines the quality of the entire process: a retention time that is too short will not ensure a homogeneous distribution of the chemical in the containment basin, resulting in unsatisfactory reactions. For these reasons, it is essential to carefully design vertical agitators by considering the main parameters such as tank volume and water flow rate.
Vertical agitators are the only viable solution in this process, which cannot be performed by other agitation solutions, such as submersible mixers. Our vertical agitators, in particular, allow for rapid and voluminous water agitation before it moves to the flocculation chamber.
Our PRO-DO-MIX® 3PM-0134 HURRICANE and 3PM-0030 EVOLUTION impellers are the ideal solution to achieve the best performance in rapid mixing and coagulation, thanks to their high hydrodynamic profile that generates high flow with minimal energy consumption.
